The New York Jets’ leaked Madden ratings could draw some ire

How do the Madden folks view the New York Jets’ players?

While the official release date for the game is August 16, the Madden 24 ratings were released between July 17-23, suggesting the ratings can come out earlier. Still, there are always leaked ratings prior to the official release. One new leaked release addresses the Jets’ roster — and some of it is ugly.

Here are the top five most wrong ratings on this list.

LB Quincy Williams (83)

A first-team All-Pro merits only an 83?! Quincy Williams was already snubbed enough when he was left off Pro Football Focus’ top-32 linebackers list, and this one is nearly as bad. Williams finished the season leading all linebackers in run stops (52)and pass breakups (8).

Quincy took note of the PFF snub, and you have to imagine he’ll have a response to Madden’s lack of belief in him, as well.

CB Michael Carter II (79)

Michael Carter II has an argument for the best slot cornerback in the NFL — but his rating is only 79?! Especially with Trent McDuffie at 89 and Taron Johnson at 86, Carter’s rating is asinine.

Just because Carter II is lesser known than the other two, that doesn’t make him any worse. Carter II does an elite job at preventing big plays, keeping everything short and in front of him. That’s no small feat for a slot corner facing the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

C Joe Tippmann (73)

I get that Joe Tippmann is not a household name yet, but73?Tyler Linderbaum got an 80 rating after his rookie season, and his 4.4% pressure rate as a rookie was far worse than Tippmann’s 3.5%.

True, Linderbaum was far better as a run-blocker (84.2 PFF grade vs. 67.4), but still, that’s not an excuse for a seven-point difference. At least John Michael Schmitz is at 68, so the bias is notso heavily against Tippmann. Still, 73 for a player who made the All-Rookie team surrounded by disaster?

LG John Simpson (72)

If Tippmann’s rating is bad, John Simpson’s is even worse. PFF somehow hates him even though his pass-blocking numbers are strong at PFF, NFL Next Gen Stats,and ESPN Analytics. Simpson could wind up the Jets’ best signing from the 2024 offseason. While other teams spent $17-20 million on mediocre linemen, the Jets spent just $6 million per season. Simpson isat worst an average guard, making his 72 grade ridiculous.

LB C.J. Mosley (88)

We had to list one that’s a little overrated. C.J. Mosley is still a useful player, but he should not be rated higher than Quincy Williams. Mosley ranked 53rd out of 71 qualified linebackers with 8.6 yards per target allowed, and he was also below average in EPA per target and yards per cover snap. He still garners respect around the NFL, but with his declining skills, his and Williams’ ratings likely should have been flipped.
