Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 13 June 2024
Thursday
Weather
Cloudy skies, albeit bright at times through the morning. The cloud thickening and gradually lowering through the afternoon, until rain breaks out, potentially being quite heavy for the evening rush-hour, so keep your raincoats at the ready. Winds will be S’ly, increasing from force 3-4 in the morning to force 5 in the afternoon and evening. Max temps will be 16-17°C. Similar numbers to the previous days, but it will feel very different… cool sunshine vs mild moisture.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf, unless there is a vaguely-rideable 2 foot pulse in the evening. Swimming conditions will be best along the north coast or in the sheltered southern nooks of the east and west coast bays. Windsurfing and kite-surfing conditions should be good towards the end of the day, if you don’t mind doing it in the rain. Tides will be low at breakfast time and dinner time. High tide will be at five past midday (7.1m).
Friday
Weather
Sunshine and showers… the sunshine (as is typical of most summer’s days) will favour the afternoons and the showers will favour the mornings and the night time. Winds will be force 4 (perhaps occasionally force 5) SW’ly or WSW’ly. Max temperatures will be about 17°C in most places once again, but 18°C will be possible around Town and The Bridge.
Surf and the Water
Return of the surf… semi-clean/semi-choppy 4-footers… can’t really complain after the Channel’s recent lake-like slumber. Kite-surfers should also have fun in the west and the north, whilst swimmers find suitable smoothness in the east. Tides will be low at breakfast time and dinner time again. High tide will be around 1pm (7m).
The Weekend
Weather
Saturday looks like the grottiest day, with a strong force 6 SW’ly or WSW’ly wind brining frequent showers and generally cloudier skies than on Friday. Sunday’s winds should moderate to force 4 though and the sunshine should dominate… the showers becoming very few and brief, probably confined to the first half of the morning (when many people are still enjoying a lazy lie-in). Max temps should be 16°C on Saturday and then 17°C or perhaps locally 18°C on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Some good surf is on the cards for Saturday, perhaps the best we have seen for a while… 6+ feet with a cross-shore (strong enough to be great for windsurfing too). Sunday will probably be easier, with the wind moderating and the swell perhaps dropping to 3-4 feet. Swimmers will generally find that the east coast is smoothest, but some other spots like Pembroke will also be nice and sheltered. High tides will be in the early afternoons. Low tides will be around breakfast time and dusk.
Next Week
Weather
Potentially a really gorgeous week, with sunshine and showers being the order of the day for pretty much the whole of Europe… pressure being low (and conducive to thundery developments) over Biscay and Scandinavia. The English Channel, sitting roughly in the middle, should enjoy a slackness and variability in the wind, meaning that the sunny spells (of which there should be plenty) should become quite a lot warmer than the generally disappointing early June temperatures. There will of course be the chance of one or two rogue showers, which could be heavy. Certainly not sufficient to be a spoiler. More of a blessing really, considering that the past fortnight has failed to yield as much as 1mm of useful rainfall for our fields and gardens. Max temps should generally be in the high teens Monday and Tuesday, then potentially into the twenties from Wednesday onward.
Surf and the Water
The lightness of the breeze should spell clean surf and smooth swimming conditions, almost regardless of the wind’s direction. However, the direction will probably be SW’ly or NW’ly for majority of the time, meaning that the east coast would always be slightly smoother. Tides (increasing in size from small to medium) will be high around dawn and in the afternoons through the first half of the week, then around breakfast and dinner time through the second half.
The next forecast update will be on Saturday evening…
