Annual night race scheduled July 20 in Apollo

Roaring Run Watershed Association will sponsor its annual 5K night race/walk, “Race to the Moon,” at 9 p.m. July 20 at the trail along the Kiski River.

Parking will be at 310 Clifford Ave., Apollo, and everyone will be bussed to the starting line. A secure baggage claim will be available at the trail. Check-in will begin at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 on race day; includes a race day T-shirt for those who register by June 21. Pizza and watermelon will be served and prizes will be awarded afterward.

Local food shuttle expands hours, service areas

The Fresh Food Shuttle sponsored by the New Kensington Downtown Partnership and Wesley Family Services has expanded its hours and now operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for residents of New Kensington, Arnold and Lower Burrell Manor.

Residents can be picked up at their homes and be taken to Golden Dawn, Giant Eagle, Animal Protectors Food Bank and Aldi, all in New Kensington, and Walmart and Aldi, both in Pittsburgh Mills in Frazer.

Riders must be at least 18 years old and can bring up to four bags. Shuttles are smoke-free. For details and a schedule, call 724-895-8270.

Free lunch offered Wednesday at Allegheny Valley Church of God

Allegheny Valley Church of God, 216 Catalpa St., New Kensington, will serve a free lunch at noon Wednesday.

Apollo Meals on Wheels seeking volunteer help

Apollo Area Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and deliver meals to clients.

Programs this week are: Tuesday, insect collage using twigs; Wednesday, Mr. Drew take-home garden; and Thursday, Ancient Egypt with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.

June 24: The Adult Crafting Club at Community Library of Allegheny Valley will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. This month’s project will be a seashell frame for a favorite beach memory. July 11: A rubber ducky race fundraiser to benefit the borough’s 175th anniversary celebration next year will be at 5 p.m. on the Kiski River. Ducks will be dropped into the river from the walking bridge to Hyde Park and will be fished out at the finish line at the firemen’s boat launch. Prizes will be awarded. Cost: $5 per duck. Ducks are available at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St. Checks payable to Leechburg Area Community Association will be accepted.

Ongoing: Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society is selling 2025 commemorative calendars. Each month displays a differed old photograph with an overlay of a more recent picture. Events that have happened around the borough through the years are noted on their respective days.
